Full 505 Dundas Streetcar Service restored for the winter

I am happy to inform you that as of Saturday, December 19, full 505 Dundas Streetcar service is expected to resume along Dundas St. W., including from Ossington to LansdowneThe restoration of TTC service will help increase pedestrian traffic to local businesses, especially in the last week before Christmas, and also minimize inconvenience for residents over the winter months.

Over the last few weeks I have heard from many residents and businesses in the area who have told me how disruptive and inconvenient the lack of TTC service on Dundas has been for them. Therefore I had instructed City staff in charge of the watermain work, as well as TTC staff, to take action to improve service in the area. Although the watermain work will be continuing in the Bathurst to Ossington area for much of the winter, City and TTC staff have been successful in identifying a solution that will allow streetcar service to resume while the remaining watermain work in that area is finished.

The watermain project in the Bathurst and Ossington area will be completed in February or March 2010. The watermain project will then move west of Dovercourt Rd, beginning in late April or May 2010 and will continue along Dundas St. W. to Lansdowne Ave, finishing in Fall 2010. When this next phase of work begins in the Spring, there will be some further disruptions to service on the 505 streetcar route. However, I will continue to work with City and TTC staff to minimize the disruption for residents and local businesses as much as possible. In the meantime, I am very pleased that I was successful in finding a solution that will restore full service to Dundas for the next several months.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your thoughts on this with me.

Have a very happy holiday season,
Adam Giambrone

Peel-Gladstone Reconstruction Open House

Municipal Class Environmental Assessment
Notice of Public Open House

Public Consultation:

We invite you to attend the second Public Open House to learn about the work completed to date and the next steps in this process. Details are as follows:

Date: Monday, November 16, 2009
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Location: St. John's Cathedral, 186 Cowan Avenue

The second Open House will present information about (1) study background, (2) evaluation of the alternative solutions, (3) the preliminary preferred solution, (4) how feedback from the May 2009 meeting has been incorporated and (5) next steps in the process. Staff will be available to answer your questions and concerns, and receive your comments.

Background:

Construction for the Dufferin Street Jog Elimination project is currently underway and will result in an underpass which will connect Dufferin Street from Queen Street West to Peel Avenue. Once completed, Peel Avenue and Gladstone Avenue (between Peel Avenue and Queen Street West) will no longer need to accommodate Dufferin Street trafc. There is an opportunity now to redesign these roads as a result of the expected decrease in trafc volumes.

This study is being undertaken in accordance with the planning and design process for ‘Schedule B’ projects as outlined in the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process (amended in 2007). We would like to hear from you

If you are unable to attend the meeting but would like to be provided with information or would like to be added to the study mailing list, please contact:

Help stop the spread of H1N1

The best way to stop the spread of H1N1 is to get vaccinated and practise good hygiene.

Do your part to stop the spread of germs:

* wash or sanitize your hands frequently
* cough or sneeze into a tissue
* if you don't have a tissue, sneeze or cough into your sleeve or arm - not your hands
* clean common surfaces
* stay home if you are ill

No special measures in addition to good hygiene are needed when there is a confirmed case in a school, day care or work setting.
